The Department of Communication Studies, Theatre, and Dance is pleased to recognize the outstanding victory at the recent National Association of Dramatic and Speech Arts in partnership with HBCU BLACK DANCE Conference, which was held in Baltimore, MD from April 5th – April 9th, 2022.
We congratulate Dr. Julius John, the Director of Theatre, and the following students for their victories at this year’s (NADSA) National Association of Dramatic and Speech Arts Competition. (Seven students attended the conference.)
Ms. Jana Marie Matthews – lst Place Winner – Oral Interpretation of Poetry (Newly elected Student Vice President for NADSA.)
Ms. Nia McConico – 2nd Place Winner – Dramatic Monologue
Ms. Ashyana Fulse -3rd Place Winner – Persuasive Speaking
Ms. Hannah Lazarus and Mr. Brandin Prater – 3rd Place Winners – Duo-Acting
In addition, Dr. John, was elected to serve as vice president of the Executive Board for NADSA, Inc.
The victory of these students attests to the Department’s vision of written and spoken communication excellence among the ranks of Bethune-Cookman University students throughout the University. Opportunities to develop in Forensics (Speech and Dramatic Arts) are open to all students at the University through the Mary McLeod Bethune Tra-Co-Dram Players, the Thurgood Marshall Speech and Debate Society, Speak Out, and the Democracy Institute.
