Become your own patient advocate at the NSB library Oct. 12

The New Smyrna Beach Regional Library, 1001 S. Dixie Freeway, will host a virtual presentation titled “Using health literacy to help patients become their own health care advocate” at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12.

Jessica Daly, a faculty librarian and assistant professor with Advent Health University, will explain how patients can use health literacy to become their own health care advocate.

As your own patient advocate, you are an active participant, but to be effective you must develop your own health literacy or health understanding, Daley said. “That means knowing where to obtain credible and timely health care information and then reading and understanding it so you can ask questions and make well-informed decisions directly impacting your health. The more you know, the better you will feel.”

Residents can watch the presentation in the library auditorium. Registration is not required. For more information, call the library at (386) 424-2910, option 3.
