Bethune-Cookman University athletes achieved two event victories and several podium finishes at the South Florida Invitational, according to an announcement on Apr. 12.
The performance highlights included Michael Carter winning the men’s long jump with a distance of 7.44 meters, while teammate Amarrion Grant finished second in the same event with a mark of 7.28 meters. Andrew Kiplagat added another win for Bethune-Cookman by taking first place in the men’s 5,000 meters with a time of 14:33.07.
Other notable results from the meet included Donovan Walker-Collins placing second in the men’s 400-meter hurdles (52.93 seconds), and the men’s 4×400-meter relay team—composed of Ethan Sharpe, Jonathan Gaines, Walker-Collins, Shanard Walker, and Jancent Wallace—finishing as runners-up with a time of 3:09.60.
In field events, Nehemiah Armstrong took fourth place in the men’s javelin throw (52.15 meters), followed by Michael Walker in fifth (50.83 meters). Ashton Holland placed fourth in discus (44.82 meters), while William Rothmiller was sixth (44.07 meters). On the women’s side, Kasie Ugeh earned third place in discus throw (45.26 meters) and sixth in shot put (13.77 meters). Selena Rutland secured fifth place in triple jump (12.47 meters) and sixth in high jump (1.60 meters).
Additional performances included Shanard Walker’s eighth-place finish in the men’s 100-meter dash (10.40 seconds), Jancent Wallace finishing eighth in the men’s 400-meter dash (47.18 seconds), and Quiaundra Brown leading Bethune-Cookman’s women’s sprinters with a tenth-place result in the women’s 100-meter dash (11.75 seconds).
