National Search for New Head Football Coach to Begin Immediately

The Bethune-Cookman University Wildcat Football program will part ways with head football coach Terry Sims after seven seasons at the helm, Athletic Director Reggie Theus announced in a statement today.

“Discussions about the progress and future of our football program eventually led us to the point where I felt it was best for us to move in a different direction,” said Theus. “We sincerely appreciate Coach Sims service to the University and wish him the best.”

Sims concludes his Wildcats career with a 38-39 record overall, having had four winning seasons out of the seven he led the B-CU Wildcats football program.

In 2015, Sims was named Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. In 2018, a 31-27 victory in the annual Florida Classic marked B-CU’s ninth consecutive triumph over Florida A&M University and Sims’ fifth straight in as many tries.

Sims also played an important role in B-CU’s unprecedented run of five conference titles in six years, joining the staff as an assistant coach in the spring of 2010.

“Sims is a dedicated, highly respected, experienced head coach that has demonstrated competitiveness and has made a positive impression not just in the lives of many student-athletes, but also on the entire MEAC and SWAC community, and of course to me as a personal friend and colleague. “These decisions are always difficult, even more so when its someone who has consistently demonstrated his commitment, and care for our players and for the game. Theus said.”

“B-CU will actively pursue a new leader who can help re-position our program and ensure that we not only build a championship culture on the field, but also aspire to academic excellence and career achievement off the field,” Theus said.  “We know that “Wildcat Nation” and our supporters expect no less.”

A national search for a new head football coach will begin immediately. Respectfully, there will be no further public comment regarding the search or candidates until the University announces its next head coach.
