Bethune-Cookman University won its third consecutive softball series after splitting a doubleheader against Alabama State on April 18 at the Barbara Williams Softball Complex in Montgomery, Alabama. The Wildcats dropped the first game 5-4 but rebounded with a commanding 9-1 victory in the second game to clinch the series.
The outcome matters as it extends Bethune-Cookman’s winning streak in weekend series and strengthens their position ahead of the regular season finale. The Wildcats now hold a record of 17-6 overall and 13-8 in conference play.
In game one, Bethune-Cookman started strong by taking an early lead with runs driven in by Kween Tauala and Jessica Alaan. However, Alabama State responded with key hits from Sharon Parker and Bailee Williams, who hit a two-run home run to give her team the advantage. Despite a late rally attempt by Bethune-Cookman, Amanda Cintron closed out the game for Alabama State with crucial outs.
Game two saw Bethune-Cookman regain momentum quickly, scoring four runs in the first inning thanks to contributions from Janel Morrisey, Alana Cypress, and Arianna Reynolds. Cypress continued her productive day with another RBI double later in the game. Pitchers Mia Gonzalez and Sofia Coleman limited Alabama State’s offense to just one run on six hits as Bethune-Cookman pulled away for a decisive win.
Looking ahead, Bethune-Cookman will host Alabama A&M at Sunnyland Park to close out its regular season schedule. The opening game is set for Friday at 5 p.m.
