Bethune-Cookman University’s track and field teams are set to compete in the Visit Gainesville Indoor Classic at the Alachua County Sports and Event Center Invitational and Multi-Event. The competition will begin on Friday at 9 a.m. in Gainesville, Florida.
Recently, Andrew Kiplagat broke a program record in the men’s 5K with a time of 14:24.25 during the Legends of Alachua County Invitational. His performance was second overall at the event and marked his second record-breaking finish this season.
The men’s team achieved five top-three finishes, including a first-place result in the men’s 4 x 400 relay with a time of 3:15.65. Ashton Matthews secured second place in the high jump with a mark of 1.94 meters, while Michael Carter finished second in the long jump at 7.32 meters. Farai Mhende placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 14.43 meters.
On the women’s side, Bethune-Cookman athletes earned two top-three finishes, including second place in the women’s 4 x 400 relay and Darryn Hough’s third-place result in the high jump with a mark of 1.56 meters.
The upcoming meet will be held at the Alachua County Sports and Event Center at Celebration Pointe, which offers extensive indoor space and facilities for various sports.
