City of DeBary recently issued the following announcement.

The City of DeBary is committed to ensuring our citizens have the tools they need to actively engage with the City and understand how to obtain the information they need. To facilitate this process, the City has launched a free, 7-week DeBary Citizens Academy program, which provides residents with the opportunity to gain exposure to City government through first-hand experience with the wide range of government functions, services, and activities.

City Academy participants will learn about the many responsibilities and functions of City Government, the relationships between City Departments and the community, and how services are provided. The Academy’s goal is to educate DeBary citizens on government operations while helping them acquire a better understanding of their role in city government. This program may also prepare individuals for public service on Council, or  leadership roles in their neighborhoods, boards, or our community. Graduates will receive a certificate upon graduation.

Classes will take place on Tuesdays  from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Meetings will occur in various locations around the City, with the majority of classes held at City Hall.

WHO MAY APPLY:

The Citizens Academy is open to DeBary City residents, ages 21 and over. Class size is limited to 20 students, and we anticipate the session to fill up quickly! Those accepted must attend each class. Acceptance will be on a first come basis.

DATES FOR THE 2022 SPRING SESSION:

The Spring Session for 2022 will begin 6:00pm on April 12 and conclude May 24.  Graduation will be at the June 1 City Council Session.
