The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded its Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of Port Orange. The certificate is for the City’s fiscal year ending September 30, 2021.

According to the GFOA, the certificate is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting and is a significant accomplishment by a government and its staff.

An impartial panel evaluated the City’s report to make sure it meets the standards of the program, which the GFOA states include “demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.”

The certificate was established in 1945 to encourage financial transparency and go beyond the basic accounting principles when preparing their annual financial reports.
