Volusia County issued the following announcement on March 3.

Interstate 95 (I-95) remains closed in both directions in the New Smyrna Beach/Edgewater area while Florida Highway Patrol investigates several crashes in the area.

Northbound I-95 traffic is being rerouted at County Road (C.R. 5A). Drivers can re-enter northbound I-95 at State Road (S.R.) 442.

Southbound I-95 traffic is being rerouted at S.R. 44. Drivers can re-enter southbound I-95 at S.R. 442.

Preliminary assessments show damage to the roadway, which will need to be repaired prior to opening to traffic. In preparation to get the roadway open as quickly as possible, FDOT crews are standing by and ready to begin repairs as soon as investigations are complete and the incidents are cleared.

The roadway closure is anticipated to last throughout the day and into the evening time. Motorists traveling on I-95 in or through Volusia County are encouraged to seek alternate routes.

Additional details are not available at this time.

Remember to stay alert and avoid distractions while driving.
