Governor Ron DeSantis has issued a memorandum announcing that the flags of the United States and the State of Florida will be flown at half-staff in honor of the victims of the recent tragedy in Israel. In addition, the Florida Capitol will be lit in blue and white, the colors of the Israeli flag.

The violence erupted on October 7, during the Jewish holiday of Simchat Torah, when Hamas terrorists launched a brutal attack on the State of Israel and its people. The attack has resulted in a devastating loss of life, with over 900 deaths, including many innocent civilian women and children. Furthermore, over 100 individuals have been taken hostage.

Governor DeSantis expressed his solidarity with the State of Israel and its citizens, stating, “This is a direct assault on the people of Israel and the Jewish community. We reinforce our commitment to Israel and our fight against anti-Israel sentiments.”

To demonstrate Florida’s support for Israel and to pay tribute to the victims, Governor DeSantis has ordered the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the State of Florida. This solemn tribute will be observed from sunrise until sunset on Friday, October 13, 2023.

In addition to the flag tribute, Governor DeSantis has directed that the Florida Capitol be illuminated in blue and white, the colors of the Israeli flag, as a symbol of solidarity and remembrance. The Capitol will be lit from sunset to sunrise until Friday, October 13, 2023.

This gesture of support and solidarity from the State of Florida serves as a reminder of the strong bond between the United States and Israel. It is a testament to the shared values of freedom, democracy, and the commitment to combating acts of terror.

As the tragedy in Israel continues to unfold, the international community stands united in condemning these acts of violence. The thoughts and prayers of the people of Florida are with the victims and their families during this difficult time.

The flags at half-staff and the blue and white illumination of the Florida Capitol serve as a visual representation of Florida’s unwavering support for Israel and a symbol of solidarity with the victims of this tragic event.
