TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced two judicial appointments to the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court.

Michael Hooi, of Tampa, has been appointed as a Judge on the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court. Judge Hooi has previously served as a Hillsborough County Court Judge since 2021. Prior to that, he worked as an Associate Attorney at Stichter, Riedel, Blain & Postler, P.A. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Vanderbilt University and a juris doctor from the University of Florida. Judge Hooi’s appointment fills the judicial vacancy left by the resignation of Judge Barbas.
Joseph Tompkins, also from Tampa, has been appointed as a Judge on the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court. He has previously served as a Hillsborough County Court Judge since 2021 and as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Middle District of Florida. Judge Tompkins obtained his bachelor’s degree and juris doctor from Ave Maria University. His appointment fills the judicial vacancy caused by the retirement of Judge Corvo.
The Thirteenth Judicial Circuit Court is responsible for handling a variety of cases in Hillsborough County, Florida. These appointments by Governor DeSantis aim to ensure the efficient functioning of the court and uphold the principles of justice.
