New Smyrna Beach tennis player Khloe Akopian earned 316 bonus points in the junior Girls’ 12 category of the United States Tennis Association by the week ending Apr. 23.

Bonus points are earned at national tournaments for “significant wins” in singles events, rising to up to 225 depending on the standing of the opposing player. These points are added to the players’ singles points.

Jarett Cascino of New York Tennis Magazine says tennis is one of the most competitive youth sports.

“There is always someone better than you on any given day, even if you are the number one player in the world!” he said.

Rankings are released weekly.
