Bethune-Cookman University announced on April 6 that Kasie Ugeh and Jonathan Gaines have been selected as Wildcats of the Week for the period of March 30 to April 5. Both athletes were recognized for their performances at the Embry Riddle Classic, where they achieved first-place finishes in their respective events.
The Wildcats of the Week award is given by the Bethune-Cookman Office of Athletic Communications to one male and one female student-athlete each week. The honor highlights individuals who excel in competition, academics, and community involvement.
Ugeh, a senior on the track and field team, secured first place in both shot put with a distance of 13.87 meters and discus with a throw of 49 meters—a new program record—at the Embry Riddle Classic. The university said she has played an important role throughout her time on the team but delivered her strongest performance this past weekend.
Gaines competed in the men’s 400-meter race at the same event, finishing first with a time of 48.19 seconds. The Jacksonville native has gradually improved his standings at recent meets.
Each week during the academic year, Bethune-Cookman recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate excellence not only in athletics but also academically and within their community through this award. Past recipients include athletes from tennis, baseball, softball, basketball, golf, volleyball, cross country, and football.
The university encourages fans to stay updated on athletics news through its social media channels and official website.
