Bethune-Cookman University announced on Apr. 23 that Andrey Martinez and Maikol Lucena have received Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Weekly Award Honors after strong performances against Florida and Alabama A&M.
The awards recognize individual achievements during a week that saw the Wildcats defeat #20 Florida in Gainesville and sweep Alabama A&M. The university reports this is the eleventh weekly award of the season for Bethune-Cookman, marking the second honor for Martinez and the first for Lucena.
Martinez was named Hitter of the Week after collecting three hits, four runs batted in (RBI), a home run, and two doubles during the midweek win over Florida. He added six hits, six RBI, and another home run in games against Alabama A&M.
Lucena earned Co-Newcomer of the Week honors following his contributions to both victories. Over those games, he recorded six hits, scored five runs, knocked in five RBI, stole a base, drew a walk, and caught four attempted base stealers without allowing any successful steals behind the plate.
The recognition highlights continued success for both players as well as Bethune-Cookman’s baseball program during this season.
