Mia Gonzalez was named Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Newcomer of the Week, according to an April 16 announcement from the conference headquarters in Birmingham.

The recognition marks the second straight week that a Bethune-Cookman player has received this honor and is Gonzalez’s second weekly award of the season.

Gonzalez, a freshman, contributed significantly to Bethune-Cookman’s recent series victory over Jackson State University. She pitched in all three games, accumulating 11.2 innings on the mound. During her appearances, she allowed only four earned runs and secured wins in two out of three games. Additionally, she recorded her second career save by getting the final out in game two.

Bethune-Cookman softball is scheduled to play again on Friday with an away series against Alabama State. The first game will start at 6 p.m. Eastern Standard Time and will be followed by a doubleheader on Saturday.
