Bethune-Cookman University secured an 82-73 victory over Alcorn State at Moore Gymnasium in Daytona Beach. Daniel Rouzan led the Wildcats with a season-high 24 points, helping the team hold off a late rally by the Braves.
The first half saw both teams exchanging one-point leads during the opening minutes. Bethune-Cookman then gained momentum with an 11-5 run, establishing a 21-14 lead and ending the half ahead by 14 points. Rouzan was key in this period, scoring 17 points. The Wildcats shot 63.3% from the field and converted four out of six three-point attempts before halftime.
In the second half, Bethune-Cookman extended their advantage to as much as 23 points after a strong start. However, Alcorn responded with a 21-6 run, narrowing the gap to eight points with just under six minutes left. During this stretch, Alcorn limited B-CU to two field goals and forced five turnovers.
Despite missing all ten three-point attempts in the second half, Bethune-Cookman relied on free throws to maintain their lead, making 15 out of 20 attempts from the line in that period.
Jakobi Heady contributed 20 points for B-CU, including 11 in the second half. Doctor Bradley added 15 points and nine rebounds. For Alcorn State, Shane Lancaster led with 16 points while four players scored in double figures. The Braves finished with twelve more shot attempts than Bethune-Cookman.
Bethune-Cookman now prepares for upcoming road games against Alabama State and Alabama A&M, beginning Saturday at Alabama State.
