City of Daytona Beach Shores recently issued the following announcement.
The City of Daytona Beach Shores is honored to have received two awards in the Volusia League of Cities’ 2021 Distinguished Service Awards. City Clerk/Human Resources Director Cheri Schwab was selected as Administrative Employee of the Year, and Mayor Nancy Miller received the Mayor Blaine O’Neal Award of Excellence.
Schwab, who has worked for the City for 28 years, was selected as Administrative Employee of the Year for her everyday commitment to excellence as the City Clerk and Human Resources Director. As City Clerk, she prepares agendas for City Council and other boards, records the minutes at public meetings, responds to public requests and oversees the management of all City records. As HR Director, she leads recruitment and hiring, provides new employee orientation and manages benefits for City employees.
“Cheri demonstrates her work ethic daily, often working through her lunch, coming in early to ensure all City work is caught up, and completely supports City Council members and all employees of Daytona Beach Shores,” Mayor Miller and Vice Mayor Mel Lindauer said in the nomination. “We would be truly lost without her.”
Mayor Miller was awarded the Mayor Blaine O’Neal Award of Excellence for her leadership and accomplishments since she was elected three years ago. She conducts annual visioning workshops with the City Council, citizens, the business community and staff. She is at the forefront of efforts to assist the business community to grow and expand.
Major accomplishments during her tenure include the opening of Veterans Park, the Van Alder Dog Park, the Tennis Courts and a new bocce ball facility, and the City was named a Purple Heart City. She has provided strong leadership related to the pandemic. The Halifax Health ExpressCare/Radiology Associates facility opened in the former Senior Center. The Port Orange/South Daytona Chamber of Commerce opened an annex in the City. The Economic Development program was created, and she worked with the county on the 2020 Census.
Mayor Miller created the monthly Coffee with the Mayor program and serves the broader community through various boards and committees. She was sworn in this week as 2nd Vice President of the Volusia League of Cities board.
“Her efforts have created a strong sense of community pride within the City,” City Manager Michael Booker said in the nomination. “Mayor Miller’s efforts have gone above and beyond the traditional duties of her position to truly enhance the community of Daytona Beach Shores. Her unique combination of civic responsibility and interpersonal skills have exemplified our City motto that ‘Life is Better Here.’”
