Volusia County officials are considering a referendum to be placed on the 2022 ballot regarding sales tax.
DeLand Mayor Bob Apgar suggested the idea during a roundtable meeting with county officials last month, with Apgar saying he considered bundling Volusia Forever, ECHO and an infrastructure sales tax into a one-cent sales tax, the Ormond Beach Observer recently reported.
County Council Chair Ed Kelley told the news agency that he agreed with that plan because ECHO and Volusia Forever get $15 million per year.
“To me, it only makes sense," Kelley told the news agency. "But being able to get there, it takes a chalkboard or something for you to see you’re taking sales tax money and using it to help fund things that the tourists and others use, for which they’re paying.”
County Councilwoman Heather Post did not agree, saying that bundling wasn't usually received well by citizens.
