CITY OF NEW SMYRNA BEACH: Ribbon cut on new Holland Park disc golf course expansion

Ribbon

City o New Smyrna Beach issued the following announcement.

Zone 4 City Commissioner Randy Hartman joined the New Smyrna Beach Disc Golf Club at Holland Park on Saturday morning to cut the ribbon on a newly completed expansion of the park's existing disc golf course, bringing the total number of holes to 18.

Players reported the course played well and the event ran smoothly without delays and back-ups. Of the 72 players in attendance ranging in age from 12 to 72, over half came from outside Volusia County with Jacksonville, Sarasota, Tallahassee, and Vero Beach all represented.

"There might have been a few room nights stemming from this one day event," said club founder and CEO Gene Varano. "Certainly the State Road 44 corridor establishments saw disc golfers spending money on food and fuel, for sure."

The club's next event is the 5th Annual NSB Open held at Doris Leeper Spruce Creek Preserve on the first weekend of March 2021, which Varano estimated would see closer to 70% of competitors coming from outside Volusia County.

"We are forever grateful to city leaders for having accepted our offer of public-private partnership and sincerely hope they are happy with their decision," added Varano. "Perhaps they can look to the west side for another opportunity to be the first amenity facilitating opening a new park setting at the lowest possible cost."

Holland Park is located at 357 Otter Blvd. in New Smyrna Beach. Learn more about how to get involved with the club and its events at https://nsbdiscgolf.com/.
