City of Daytona Beach recently issued the following announcement.
Update: Detectives have arrested 33-year-old Deandre K. Anderson on a felony count of premeditated first-degree murder in connection with this case.
The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) is actively investigating after a body is found inside a burning home in Midtown by officers responding to a reported physical disturbance.
First responders arrived at 520 Cannon Street soon after a call came into the Volusia County emergency dispatch center at 1:01 p.m. today (August 22, 2021). The caller told dispatchers that a male who lives at that residence was attacking an elderly female.
Officers arrived within minutes, discovering a man walking southbound away from the home on Cannon Street. They also smelled smoke coming from the residence and went inside, finding heavy flames which required a rapid response from the Daytona Beach Fire Department (DBFD).
A body was found inside the residence after DBFD personnel had extinguished the fire. We have not made a positive identification on the body at this time, but we can confirm that the remains are of an adult female and that she was found on the ground.
The man who first responders found walking away from the home is now in police custody and being questioned by investigators.
No arrest has been made at this time. Investigators are working on a search warrant in order to search for more evidence at the Cannon Street home.
The office of State Attorney R.J. Larizza and the State Fire Marshal’s Office is assisting in this investigation.
