City seeking Director of Development Services candidates

City of New Smyrna Beach recently issued the following announcement.

The City of New Smyrna Beach is seeking a highly skilled development professional to manage its Planning, Engineering, Building, and Code Enforcement team of 38 professional planners, engineers, inspectors, technicians, plans examiners, and administrative staff.

Our residents and businesses expect good governance, transparency, and quality service delivery. From October 2020 through July 2021, the Development Services Department issued over 3,500 permits using new permitting & inspection software to halve average wait times from 6 to 3 weeks. Along with $12.5 million in public infrastructure reinvestments, a new $3 million Development Services & Commission Chambers building, recently updated 2021 Capital Improvements Program & 2020 Economic Development Plan, upcoming regional economic forums and summits, and Tax Abatement Program, the ideal candidate will inherit an operation primed for continued success by a city manager with nearly 30 years of service to New Smyrna Beach, an assistant city manager promoted directly from this position, and an experienced team of four senior support staff.

We offer a regionally competitive annual salary of $98,000 to $135,000. Relocation and professional dues are negotiable. Benefits include:
