Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University issued the following announcement on Sept. 28.
Tuesday was a banner day for the Embry-Riddle women's golf program as the Eagles saw one record tied and several other top-10 marks set on the final day of the Sea Best Jacksonville Classic. ERAU placed eighth overall at the mostly-NCAA I event, firing a 935 overall following its best round of the tournament on Tuesday (307).
The Eagles' 935 marked the eighth-best 54-hole score in program history. Eight of ERAU's top-10 54-hole scores of all-time have been set in the last three seasons.
Sophia Dieter tied the school record with a 221 at the tournament, finishing on Tuesday by tying her ERAU-best round with a 72. Dieter had another three birdies on Tuesday in her even-par round. For the tournament, Dieter led the field with a 2.92 score on par 3 holes. The Jupiter, Florida native now owns four of the program's top-10 54-hole scores in her career.
Marybeth McGuire set her collegiate-best 54-hole score with a 237 (70-84-83) which included the third-lowest round in school history in round one. Reni Jancsik's 244 (80-87-77) was highlighted by her 77 on Tuesday, and Mackenzie Dieter (89-80-76=245) shot her best round of the tournament on Tuesday as well.
Millie Lawson, playing in her first tournament for the Blue and Gold, finished with a 247 (87-78-82), while both Brigitte Clements (82-83-80=245) and Paula Valdivia (87-84-96=267) played as individuals.
"This was definitely a great start to the season," Head Coach Maria Lopez said. "We're headed totally in the right direction. The team felt like they had more and I think we're going to see great things. Their energy, presence and effort has been elite level. I'm super proud."
The Eagles take a few weeks off from competition before participating in the Saint Leo Invitational (Oct. 8-19) at the Lake Jovita Country Club.
