City of New Smyrna Beach issued the following announcement on Oct. 5.
The Mary S. Harrell Black Heritage Museum's Heritage House is the latest local landmark to benefit from a new Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) streetscape project as its aging wooden fence was recently replaced with a brand new vinyl one.
"This along with the new parking lot on Jefferson Street represent the beginnings of our Duss Street streetscape project," said Economic Development & CRA Director Christopher Edwards.
On Feb. 9 earlier this year, city commissioners voted 5-0 to approve the $80,000 bundle of aesthetic and infrastructure improvements including:
Sidewalk that extends from Jefferson Street to Washington Street
Curb, gutter, and driveway apron in front of Bethel Academy
New streetlight fixture facing Duss Street from an existing utility pole
Seven parallel parking spaces
White vinyl fences for Bethel Academy and Black History Museum Heritage House
