Arbor Day Celebration & Waterwise Fair

5

City of New Smyrna Beach recently issued the following announcement.

Meet rescue owls and help beautify our community when we, proudly designated as a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation, host our annual Arbor Day Celebration & Waterwise Fair on Saturday, Feb. 5 starting at 9 a.m. next to the Utilities Commission building at 200 Canal St.

With proof of residency, take your pick from among 400 trees including Sand Live Oak, Sweet Bay Magnolia, Crepe Myrtle, Dahoon Holly, Red Cedar, and Bald Cypress while supplies last. Limit one tree per resident. Butterfly Milkweed (Asclepias tuberosa) seeds, an important food source for monarch butterflies, will also be handed out in recognition of our status as a Monarch City USA.

For your convenience, we're again partnering with Boy Scout Troop 72 to help load your free tree directly into your vehicle. If you prefer to hand carry your tree, that's okay too! Please see included map for details.

In addition, the Utilities Commission, City of New Smyrna Beach, Florida will host their annual Waterwise Fair while raffling rain barrels, water buckets for recycling, and other nifty items.

Other community conservation groups and nature enthusiasts on hand to provide educational tips and answer questions will include:

- Beekeepers of Volusia County

- Florida East Coast Bromeliad Society

- Keep NSB Clean

- Lindley's Garden Center

- Lyonia Environmental Center

- Manatee Protection Program

- Master Gardeners of Volusia County
