The Daytona Beach Shores Department of Public Safety is investigating an accident between a sedan car and motorcycle that killed the motorcyclist late Friday night, April 22.
A Public Safety Officer observed the car’s female driver southbound on South Atlantic Avenue (A1A) traveling at 85 mph. The officer turned on her lights as the car was passing her in the opposite direction. The driver did not slow down and, instead, struck a motorcyclist who was turning left into the Sunoco gas station at 2530 S. Atlantic Ave. The motorcyclist was killed instantly.
The speeding car continued southbound and stopped in the 2600 block when it became disabled. The driver of the car was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center with head injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
The motorcyclist was from out of state, and next of kin has not yet been notified. The Department of Public Safety is not releasing either driver’s name at this time. The investigation is continuing, and charges are pending.
Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
