Building Trades Examining Board: Three vacancies, one regular member and two alternate members, three year term expiring on January 1, 2025The Building Trades Examining Board is composed of seven members with two alternate members. Building Trades Board members must be residents of Volusia County. Regular board members must have knowledge and experience in technical codes; such as design professionals, contractors or building industry representatives.
The alternate board members define that one must be an at large member of the building industry and one must be an at large member of the general public. No member may serve more than two consecutive terms unless waived by the City Commission. The board makes determinations regarding applications for certificates of registration and recommends amendments to the various codes and regulatory standards that bear upon the construction industry and building trades in general. The board meets as required.

Historic Preservation Commission: One vacancy, three year term, expiring on May 14, 2025
The Historic Preservation Commission is composed of seven members that serve three-year terms at the pleasure of the City Commission. Members must be New Smyrna Beach residents. If possible, members must be professionals in the fields of architecture, history, architectural history, archeology or other history-related fields such as urban planning, American studies, American civilization, cultural geography or cultural anthropology. Laypersons with special interest, experience or knowledge in any of those fields must make up the balance. The City Commission recommends designation of historic districts, landmarks and sites; advises on historic preservation; coordinates the City preservation work with federal, state and county governments and other city departments; etc. The Commission meets quarterly at 5:30 p.m. in the City Commission Chambers.

Personnel Board: Two vacancies, three-year terms, expiring May 1, 2025
The Personnel Board is composed of five members who must be registered voters in the City. No member may serve more than two consecutive terms unless waived by the City Commission. The Board advises the City Manager and City Commission on matters of personnel policy; represents the public interest in the improvement of personnel administration; and, holds and conducts hearings involving appeals of disciplinary action against employees. The board meets as required.
