Public Safety Officer Ryan Mowen was named Officer of the Year and Firefighter/EMT Pete Duffy was named Rookie of the Year, and many other awards were presented at the Shores Public Safety Awards on May 20. Mowen has been a Public Safety Officer since August 2018, and Duffy joined the department last July.
The awards program, wrapping up National Police Week, was the first held in several years due to the COVID pandemic. Other awards presented at the program were:
Administrative Excellence – Lt. R.J. Medders
Director’s Special Recognition – Sgt. Kathryn Gotz
Civilian of the Year – Kelley Register, Crime Scene Analyst
Meritorious Service – Sgt. Vincent Castellano and Officers Jacob Franklin and Heather Wooleyhan
Volunteer Awards – Richard “Ace” Beeman and Charles Hall
Lifesaving Awards – Four Lifesaving Awards were presented to individual officers or pairs of officers for actions that saved a person’s life. Recipients were Officer Laura Diedesch, Detective Sgt. Jessica Long, Officer Jack Ransom, Firefighter/Paramedic Jodie Stafford, Paramedic Matthew Sweeney and Officer Jeff Zephir
Teamwork Awards – Eight Teamwork Awards were given for officer teams who worked on a specific criminal case. Recipients of the Teamwork Awards were Firefighter/Paramedic Brad Blad, Evidence Technician Brian Bruggemann, Detective Daniel Carrazana, Detective Darius DeBarros (who has since died), Officer Laura Diedesch, Detective Jordan Duffy, Detective Sgt. Jessica Long, Detective Gary Malphurs, Lt. R.J. Medders, Officer Ryan Mowen, Sgt. Bill Phillips, Sgt.
