Oceans Golf Club, Mayor Cut Ribbon on New Tee Boxes

The Oceans Golf Club in Daytona Beach Shores celebrated the opening of new Tee Boxes on all 13 holes of the Par-3 course with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 12.

The three-month project expanded each hole to provide upgraded and larger Tee Boxes with salt-tolerant and drought-tolerant grass that improves play and overall course conditions, said Steve Madden, president of the Oceans West Homeowners Association, which owns and operates the not-for-profit golf course.

“We wanted to improve our already beautiful course and make it even more enjoyable for our members and visitors,” Madden said. “The course is in great shape for fall and winter play.”

Among those joining the Oceans Golf Club board and members for the ribbon-cutting on Hole 13 were course architect Bill Amick and Johnnell Scott, Robert Scott and Vernon Scott of Scott Landscaping & Grading, which built the course originally and also constructed the new Tee Boxes.

Daytona Beach Shores Mayor Nancy Miller, City Manager Kurt Swartzlander and Director of Recreation, Economic Development & Public Affairs Nancy Maddox also assisted with cutting the ceremonial ribbon.

“Our residents treasure having the golf course right here in the heart of our city,” said Mayor Miller. “When we ask our visitors and residents what makes Daytona Beach Shores so special, the golf course is one of the things at the top of the list.”

The Mayor also praised the health benefits of the course. “It promotes the type of lifestyle we have here in the Shores – a walking course for exercise and a healthy lifestyle,” she said.

The Oceans Golf Club’s 13 holes are arranged in a large oval along South Peninsula Drive and around 3 condominiums. The course, which opened in 1983, offers memberships and is open to the public 364 days a year. The pro shop is located behind the Shores Community Center, with plenty of parking available. The street address is 2 Oceans West Blvd., Suite 101, Daytona Beach Shores. Visit www.OceansGolfClub.com for more information.
