Jones Edmunds & Associates, Inc., an engineering firm hired to analyze local flooding experienced during Hurricane Ian and review city stormwater regulations, will host a public kickoff meeting for residents to understand what the project entails and share their input and observations this Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 5:30 p.m. in the Brannon Center at 105 S. Riverside Dr.

Looking at the big picture, the team will:

  1. Host a public kickoff meeting on Jan. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in the Brannon Center
  2. Acquire topographic and flood scenario-related data
  3. Compare city stormwater code and standards to similar communities in Florida
  4. Perform an Exposure Analysis to identify the depth of water caused by Hurricane Ian
  5. Analyze the impact of large new developments and their associated stormwater management systems
  6. Draft a Final Report including a geodatabase containing model input layers and results
  7. Present their findings to the City Commission on May 2
During the study, a moratorium prohibiting new residential development projects on properties 10 acres or larger located in FEMA Flood Zones A & AE until June 27 will be in effect.

Leading the meeting will be Water Resources Managing Director & Senior Vice President Brett Cunningham, whose expertise extends to flood protection, water quality, water supply, natural systems, integrated water resources planning, wastewater collection systems, and funding procurement. He applies computer models and geographic information systems to assist in planning, problem solving, and developing management strategies.
