A Florida Power & Light contractor is expected to begin trimming trees this week in Port Orange as part of routine tree and vegetation maintenance.

FP&L hired a qualified line-clearing contractor, Asplundh Tree Experts, to do the work. According to the FP&L, trees and vegetation are the leading cause of outages, especially during severe weather.

The majority of the work is scheduled to happen around Willow Run Boulevard and out toward the landfill. FP&L expects the work to be done by the end of January.

FP&L says people will be notified of any neighborhood trimming in advance of any work occurring on their properties.
