Florida Governor Ron DeSantis issued a memorandum on April 17, 2024, directing flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of former Governor Bob Graham, who passed away at the age of 87. Governor Graham, surrounded by his family and wife of sixty-five years, Adele, breathed his last on April 16, 2024.
A prominent figure in Florida politics, Governor Graham had an illustrious career that began in 1966 when he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives. He later served as Governor and then as a United States Senator for 18 years before retiring in 2005. Described as a champion of economic advancement, public education, and conservation efforts, Governor Graham left a lasting impact on the state.
In recognition of his dedicated service, Governor DeSantis emphasized, "Governor Graham exemplified a commitment to public service and to bettering the State of Florida." As a tribute to his legacy, the Governor ordered, "the flags of the United States and the State of Florida to be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout the State of Florida from sunrise to sunset, beginning Thursday, April 18, 2024, until sunset on the date of internment."
