Governor Ron DeSantis issued a memorandum on Thursday, April 25, 2024, directing flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of the late Bill Gunter, who passed away at the age of 89. Gunter's extensive career in public service was highlighted by Governor DeSantis, who stated, "He displayed a life-long commitment to public service."
Bill Gunter's legacy includes serving in various political roles such as the Florida Senate, the U.S. Congress, and positions in the Florida Cabinet, including Insurance Commissioner, State Treasurer, and Fire Marshall.
In accordance with Governor DeSantis' directive, the flags of the United States and the State of Florida will be lowered at the Leon County Courthouse, City Hall of Tallahassee, and the State Capitol in Tallahassee from sunrise to sunset on Monday, April 29, 2024.
