Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has unveiled a plan to provide relief to families during the summer months. The initiative, known as the Freedom Summer Sales Tax Holiday, will be implemented throughout the entire month of July in the upcoming Fiscal Year 2024-25 budget. The tax holiday will encompass a wide range of items, making them sales tax-free, including fishing supplies, outdoor recreation equipment, admissions to state parks, and museums.
In a statement, Governor DeSantis expressed his commitment to easing the financial burden on Floridians, especially in light of rising costs caused by inflation at the federal level. He stated, "Florida is stepping up to make summer more affordable for families."
Highlighting the natural beauty and recreational opportunities within the state, Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Shawn Hamilton encouraged residents and visitors to take advantage of the savings and explore Florida's renowned state parks. Hamilton remarked, “Florida’s 175 award-winning state parks are second to none.”
As part of the summer savings initiative, all Florida State Parks will offer free admission during Memorial Day Weekend, from May 24-27, 2024, allowing families to kick off the summer season with outdoor adventures at no cost.
The Freedom Month Sales Tax Holiday aims to alleviate expenses for families by eliminating sales tax on various summer essentials. These include items such as boating and water activity supplies, fishing gear, camping equipment, outdoor accessories, and admissions to events or performances scheduled between July 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024.
With these measures, Governor DeSantis seeks to provide economic relief and promote outdoor recreation opportunities for families across Florida.
