Governor Ron DeSantis has directed flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Day. The memorial weekend, hosted by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation at the National Fallen Firefighters Monument in Emmitsburg, Maryland, will pay tribute to 226 firefighters who lost their lives, with 89 of them perishing in 2023.
"Each year, we honor the fallen firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice protecting their communities," Governor Ron DeSantis stated. He emphasized the significance of remembering the brave firefighters who selflessly gave their lives in the line of duty.
Highlighting the solemn occasion, Governor Ron DeSantis noted, "These 226 firefighters will be remembered for their heroic and noble actions." The tribute serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by firefighters to ensure the safety and well-being of their communities.
In observance of the 43rd Annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, flags of the United States and the State of Florida will be flown at half-staff at all local and state buildings, installations, and grounds throughout Florida from sunrise on Saturday, May 4, 2024, to sunset on Sunday, May 5, 2024.
