Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 12.
The Embry-Riddle women's soccer team was relentless on offense on the way to a 5-0 defeat of Davenport (0-4) on Sunday. Playing their first home contest of the season, the Eagles outshot the Panthers 23-0 to improve their overall record to 2-1.
"It was great to get a chance to play someone that's not a typical match-up for us geographically," ERAU Head Coach Samantha Bohon noted. "We were happy to start strong again this game as that's a big emphasis for us. While we wish we were more efficient scoring with the number of quality chances we created, we were happy to see five quality goals by five different players. Once we get that final pass and box organization down, I think we'll be even more dangerous. Plus, our team as a whole has committed to the defensive side of the ball, so a second shutout is a welcomed result."
The Eagles took control of the game early, putting the Panthers back on their heels from the first whistle. Davenport struggled to get the ball out of their half of the field, while the Eagles threatened with five shots in the first five minutes of play.
The Blue and Gold finally got on the board in the 19th minute. Isabelle Navren, who dominated the right flank throughout the contest, put a low cross into the box. Carrying two defenders with her into the box, Saba Amiri managed to get a touch on the ball before it found Marie Myhrvold Seim who knocked in her second goal of the season to put the Eagles up 1-0.
In the 34th minute, the Eagles struck again. Both players involved in the goal came off the bench and immediately impacted in the game. After racing down the left side, Natalie Allen played a ball into the box when Alma Olesen tapped in a low shot in with the outside of her foot to put the Eagles up 2-0.
Embry-Riddle was not satisfied with its two-goal advantage and opened the second half with a barrage of three goals within the first three minutes. Navren was the first to score in the frame as she finished a Ragnheidur Gardarsdottir pass just 39 seconds into the half.
At the 47:02 mark, Sofia Munthe Nilsson made the score 4-0 in favor of the home team, running onto a cross by Myhrvold Seim to net the first goal of her ERAU career.
One minute later, the numbers on the scoreboard changed again as Gardarsdottir scored her first goal of the year to seal the five-goal victory for ERAU.
"We have a stretch ahead of us that will give us a tremendous opportunity to see the backbone and mentality of this team," Bohon said. "We're excited for the challenge and will use this week to prepare."
The Eagles will play one more non-conference game on Friday when they travel to Georgia to take on Valdosta State. Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m.
