Kemari Averett Named to 2022 Black College Football Player of the Year Watch List

Bethune-Cookman standout tight end, Kemari Averett grabs yet another preseason accolade, as he was named to the 2022 Black College Football Player of the Year Watch list, it was announced Tuesday.

One of the premier tight ends in the country, Averett was also named to the All-SWAC First Team at SWAC media day in July, as well as the Stats Perform Walter Payton Award Preseason Watch, the 2022 HERO Sports FCS Preseason All American Second Team Offense, and the BOXTOROW HBCU All-American Second Team.

Averett collected six postseason distinctions following the 2021 campaign. He was named to the 2021 All-SWAC First Team Offense, as well as the HERO All-American second team offense, the FCA ADA All-American team, the 2021 Stats Perform FCS All-American Second Team, and the 2021 AFCA FCS Coaches All-American First Team Offense. Averett was also named a Phil Steele Second Team All-American and First Team All Southwestern Athletic Conference.

The Wildcats' number one weapon on offense finished the 2021 season with 52 receptions, 888 yards, and 11 touchdowns. He averaged 17.1 yards per catch and just over 80 yards per game. Averett led the Wildcats in every receiving category. His impressive numbers put him at or near the top of his conference as a receiving threat.

Training camp continues for the Wildcats as they prepare for a successful year two in the Southwestern Athletic Converence. B-CU opens the season in Coral Gables as they take on the Miami Hurricanes on Sep. 3.
