Wildcats Fall To Highlanders in Five Sets

Bethune-Cookman concluded its second weekend of the 2022 season with a 3-2 (20-25-20,25-19,23-25, 15-13) loss to UC-Riverside in the Molly Howard-Gerwig Memorial Tournament at Houston Baptist Saturday.

It was B-CU's first five-set match since a 3-2 victory over Nichols State on September 20, 2019.

B-CU scored four unanswered points to take a 7-3 lead in the fifth set, but UC-Riverside countered with a 5-0 run for an 8-7 lead, then broke open an 8-8 tie with four unanswered points.

B-CU closed to one point on three occasions, the last at 14-13 on a Jasmine Moore.

B-CU won the first set on a 10-0 run that erased a 20-15 deficit.

The Wildcats evened the match with a fourth-set victory in which they scored the final four points

Moore led the Wildcats with 17 kills. She was named to the All-Tournament team following her efforts on the weekend. Alisa Callender double-doubled with 18 assists and 10 kills along with eight kills, six blocks and two service aces.

Kytal Price registered five and eight blocks.

Madison Coates posted 15 assists, while Adriana Marrero and Jaedyn Newman had 15 and 13 digs, respectively.

The Wildcats return to action next weekend at Stetson, facing Mercer on Friday and host Stetson and SIU—Edwardsville Saturday.
