Stetson University Athletics issued the following announcement on Aug. 8.
The Stetson women's soccer team will play two exhibition matches this week, beginning Monday night at home against Daytona State. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Athletic Training Center. Admission is free.
The Hatters will then travel to Atlanta, Ga. to face Georgia State in an exhibition match Thursday night. That contest will also begin at 7 p.m.
"We are excited about these exhibitions because they are different tests," head coach Chris Bergmann said. "Throughout the season, we are going to see different styles of play and different levels of physicality, and we need to be prepared.
"We teach a lot of problem solving, so when our ladies step on the field, we expect they are going to make the right adjustments, they are going to have our principals of play and apply them and ultimately make the right decisions," Bergmann added. "We want to be highly aggressive, we want to be forward thinking, very offensive minded, but we want to control both sides of the ball and dictate the pace. So we are excited these two challenges are ahead of us, and I think we are going to be very well prepared."
The Hatters begin their 18-game regular season schedule at FIU on August 19. Stetson will then enjoy a three-game homestand against Oakland (Aug. 22), Mercer (Aug. 27), and Alabama State (Aug. 29) before playing its next five non-conference contests on the road.
The ASUN schedule will feature four matches against ASUN West Division opponents Bellarmine (Sept. 23), Eastern Kentucky (Sept. 26), North Alabama (Sept. 30), and Jacksonville State (Oct. 3), followed by five matches against fellow ASUN East Division squads North Florida (Oct. 7), Liberty (Oct. 10), Kennesaw State (Oct. 14), Jacksonville (Oct. 17) and FGCU (Oct. 23). The ASUN Championship begins Oct. 29.
Bergmann begins his third season at the helm of the program.
