Bethune-Cookman University Athletics recently issued the following announcement.
Bethune-Cookman University Athletic Director/Men's Basketball Coach Reggie Theus has announced the appointment of Scott Sommer as Associate Athletic Director.
Sommer comes to B-CU from Portland State, where he was an assistant men's basketball coach for the 2020-21 season. Sommer had served PSU as the Director of Basketball Operations the previous two seasons. He previously worked at Cal State Northridge men's basketball from 2016-18.
"Scott is one of those people that is extremely intelligent and can do anything thrown his direction," Theus said. "Excited for him to have this opportunity to become a great administrator. It's the beginning of a bright future."
Prior to his time at CSUN, Sommer had been an assistant coach for one season at Pearl River Community College in Poplarville, MS. That team enjoyed a 16-win campaign, capping it off with a Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges South Division Championship.
A native of San Diego, Sommer is a graduate of Xavier University with a degree in Sport Management (2011). An accomplished student, Sommer was a member of the Mortar Board Honor Society while attending Xavier.
Bethune-Cookman returns to action later this year for its first season as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
